HGV Skills Bootcamp

Free HGV Driver Training for New and Upgrading Drivers (England Only)

HGV Skills Bootcamps are fully funded training programmes designed for individuals in England who are either new to HGV driving or looking to upgrade their licence from Category C to Category C+E.

These flexible courses are part of the Government’s Skills for Life initiative and aim to fast-track learners into professional driving careers through structured training and strong employer engagement.

Basic Eligibility Criteria:

  • Aged 19 or over

  • Holds a full Category B (car) driving licence

Training Process:

  1. Initial Employer Interview and Selection

  2. Advice and Guidance Session, including Get to Know Logistics training

  3. Medical Exam and Driver Test Success online learning

  4. Module 1: Theory, Hazard Perception, and Module 2 CPC tests

  5. Practical Driver Training

  6. Module 3: Practical Driving Test (including re-tests, if needed)

  7. Module 4: Practical Demonstration Test

  8. Post-Completion Interview and Job Offer

Employer Commitment:

  • Conduct Initial Interview & Selection

  • Provide Written Confirmation of the interview to PDT

  • Organise 2 'Buddy Days' — time on the road with an experienced HGV driver (includes company/site orientation)

  • Submit Written Confirmation of Buddy Day completion to PDT

  • Conduct Post-Completion Interview

  • Issue Written Confirmation of Job Offer to PDT
