Approved by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA)

The Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC) is a mandatory qualification for Large Goods Vehicle (LGV/HGV) and Passenger Carrying Vehicle (PCV) drivers who operate professionally in the UK and Europe. Developed under EU Directive 2003/59, DCPC aims to raise and maintain the knowledge and skills of professional drivers throughout their careers.

While it is the driver’s responsibility to ensure their DCPC qualification remains up to date, employers should also track and support driver training to ensure fleet-wide compliance and reduce operational risk.

3. Stay Safe – Stay Legal

Focuses on risk awareness and compliance. Includes:

  • Manual handling (theory and practice)

  • Lone working best practices

  • Health & safety responsibilities

  • Encourages reflection through discussion-led learning

4. Safe Driving Essentials

Covers critical elements of safe and responsible driving:

  • Road collision statistics

  • Defensive driving techniques

  • Reversing best practices

  • Night driving and medical fitness to drive

  • Awareness of vulnerable road users

5. The Meaning of Life (First Aid)

Prepares drivers to act confidently at the scene of an accident:

  • Basic First Aid procedures

  • Adult CPR

  • Scene safety and response

  • How to manage emergency situations

Practical / On-Road Modules

6. 7.5T Vehicle Familiarisation (1- or 2-day options)

Ideal for new or transitioning drivers, this module includes:

  • Vehicle walkaround checks

  • Slow manoeuvring and reversing

  • Urban and rural driving skills

  • Eco-driving techniques

7. On the Road (Theory)

Focuses on real-world driving challenges and professionalism:
