Improving safety and reducing risk during yard vehicle manoeuvres
Reversing and manoeuvring vehicles on-site is a leading cause of workplace collisions. Our HGV Shunter Training aims to reduce accident rates and improve safety by equipping delegates with the essential skills and knowledge needed to perform shunting tasks safely and confidently.
Duration: 4 hours
Trainer-to-delegate ratio: 1 trainer : 2 delegates (max)
Location: On-site using your vehicle and yard area
Requirements:
C+E licence entitlement
Risk-assessed yard area
Suitable shunt vehicle provided
Proof of adequate insurance cover
Each delegate is formally assessed during the course. A detailed assessment report with feedback and further training recommendations is issued to the employer.
Delegates will cover the following key areas:
Daily vehicle checks (tractor unit and trailer)
Safe yard operations and workplace safety procedures
Full understanding of vehicle and trailer controls
Correct coupling and uncoupling techniques
Controlled manoeuvring in restricted spaces
Reversing and blindside reversing
Safe trailer parking procedures
This course helps employers meet their obligations under Health and Safety at Work legislation, while ensuring safer yard operations and reducing costly incidents.
